Description	Nasal epithelial cells form the outermost protective layer against environmental factors. They clean, humidify, and warm inhaled air. They produces mucus, which binds particles that are subsequently transported to the pharynx by cilia on the epithelial cells. It has been shown that epithelial cells not only defend physically, but also respond by the production of inflammatory mediators that may affect local immune responses. They are used as an in vitro model for studying nasal defence mechanism.
Procedure Overview
Propagation	Use of PriCoat? T25 Flasks (G299) or Applied Cell Extracellular Matrix (G422) is required for cell adhesion to the culture vessels. Grow cells in ECM-coated culture vessels with the following conditions. The base medium for this cell line is Prigrow I medium available in ABM, Cat. No. TM001. To make the complete growth medium, add the following components to the base medium: fetal bovine serum (TM999) to a final concentration of 5% and Penicillin/Streptomycin(G255). Atmosphere: air, 95%; Carbon dioxide (CO₂), 5%.
Quality Control	Real Time PCR was used to quantify SV40 gene expression in immortalized cell line. Tested negative for fungi and bacterial growth, mycoplasma, HIV-1, HBV, and HCV.
