Cell Type Characterization
Description	Microglia cells are resident macrophages of the brain and spinal cord and they act as the first and the main form of active immune defense in the nervous system. The Immortalized Human Microglia - SV40 cell line is derived from Primary Human Microglia Cells (>99% purity) and have maintained microglial specific markers such as NGF, CD68 and TREM2 as demonstrated by RT-PCR. These cells are suitable for studies of human microglia in health and disease.

Propagation	Use of PriCoat? T25 Flasks (G299) or Applied Cell Extracellular Matrix (G422) is required for cell adhesion to the culture vessels. Grow cells in ECM-coated culture vessels with the following conditions. The base medium for this cell line is Prigrow III medium available in ABM, Cat. No. TM003. To make the complete growth medium, add the following components to the base medium: fetal bovine serum to a final concentration of 10% and 1% Penicillin/Streptomycin (G255). This cell line needs to be cultured in collagen coated flasks. Atmosphere: air, 95%; Carbon dioxide (CO₂), 5%. Temperature: 37.0°C.
Quality Control	Real Time PCR was used to quantify SV40 gene expression in immortalized cell line.
